MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- It's a sign of the times. A Miami plastic surgeon has become a social media sensation.

Dr. Michael Salzauher is known as "Dr. Miami." He has been a board certified plastic surgeon for 20 years.

This past year he has been Snapchatting his entire day taking viewers straight into the operating room.

"My daughter said why don't you try Snapchat. I was like, isn't that for like, sexting? I didn't know what Snapchat was. [She said] they have this thing called 'my story.' I said how many people are going to want to watch that the whole day," asked Dr. Miami.

If you don't know about Snapchat, here's a lesson: Snapchat is a social media platform. You can post pictures and record video in 10 second snaps. The catch? All content disappears in 24 hours and there are no guidelines.

The procedures and the images are graphic but apparently not too graphic for his viewers. Last month he had over 100,000 viewers.

"A lot of people watch it with their hands over their eyes, like this, and eventually they get comfortable with it," said Dr. Miami.

Samara Joseph found Dr. Miami on Snapchat.

"I loved watching the Snapchat -- I believe it made me a lot more comfortable watching him actually work on other patients," said Joseph. "I always had symmetry in my breast, I've never been able to wear a bra without padding. I've never been able to run without skin coming out, nothing was ever a normal day. I had a breast lift and implants. I had a tummy tuck and a Brazilian augmentation."

All of Samara's surgery was broadcast in real-time on Snapchat.

Dr. Miami says, "It's the ultimate reality show. It's not scripted. We just come to work and do our thing."

Dr. Miami is so popular he is nominated as the Snapchatter of the Year -- he has also had to hire two full-time people to handle questions coming in through Snapchat.

He loves the interaction and the questions he receives on Snapchat.

"Mostly good questions about plastic surgery. How do you stop the bleeding? How do the scars look afterwards? How big can you make her boobs or booty? I've got a lot of fans in Iceland that want me to go there and do surgery in Iceland. I'm getting free swag -- I would have never dreamed of that."

When asked about how he can do run a practice and document his entire day, dr. Miami says, "I've been in private practice 13 year, board certified 10 years, I've been a dr. For 20 years. You need to develop a certain level competence and confidence in your surgical skills and in your office your office staff has to be with it to pull this off."

So what does he really think about marrying a typical practice with technology?

He says, "I'm a middle aged dad with 5 kids and imp going against Kylie Jenner and DJ haled for an award. God bless America."

For Dr. Miami, it's about doing what he loves every day and seeing the smile on his patients' faces.

Samara Joseph told the doctor that she would have never had the confidence if it weren't for what he did.

"That's all you. You did that. In four hours, you changed my entire life. Really, truly! Forever."

To put things in perspective to how large Dr. Miami's audience is -- he is competing for the Snapchatter of the year award against DJ Khaled, who has as many as 3 million views on Snapchat, and Kylie Jenner, who is reportedly the number one most viewed person on Snapchat.
