ROCK HILL, SC (CBSMiami) -- A 6-week-old adorable puppy is recovering at a South Carolina animal hospital it was shot 18 times with a BB gun.
According to CBS4 News partner the Miami Herald, a utility worker spotted 15 to 20 juveniles playing with a black puppy Sunday. When he went to check it out, he saw it was "bleeding heavily" from multiple wounds.
The kids told police "someone who stays in the apartment complex had stabbed the puppy multiple times and shot the puppy with a BB gun," according to the police report but they didn't know who did it.
The officer drove the puppy, now named Brody, to the Ebenezer Animal Hospital where veterinarians found 18 BB pellets lodged in his skin and muscle. He wasn't stabbed. The pellets will not be removed because of his age and because they didn't lodge in any vital organs.
Brody is expected to make a full recovery.
The vet, Dr. Jay Hreiz, said this was one of the worst cases of animal abuse he's ever seen.
No arrests have been made and investigators can't find his owner.
Once Brody is fully recovered, he will be put up for adoption through Project Safe Pet, a local non-profit.
