Disney World Unveiling New Star Wars-Themed Shows

LAKE BUENA VISTA (CBSMiami) -- Following the box office success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Walt Disney World Resort is set to unveil more Star Wars-themed entertainment this spring and summer.

The "galaxy far, far away" will be now be closer than ever at Disney's Hollywood Studios featuring one of the most elaborate fireworks and projection shows in the park's history called Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.

Starting April 4th, Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away will celebrate the iconic moments from the movies that includes vignettes of the saga's most popular characters. Captain Phasma will lead a squad of First Order stormtroopers in their march from Star Wars Launch Bay to the Center Stage in an intimidating demonstration of the First Order's strength.

In the summer, the park's sky will be lit up by fireworks, lasers, light projections and other effects combined with Star Wars-themed music and iconic characters from the saga. The state-of-the-art special effects will project onto the Chinese Theatre and other surrounding buildings. Guests will gaze at the twin suns of Tatooine, push through a battalion of battle droids, navigate through an asteroid field, and soar down the trench of the Death Star to deliver a final blow to Starkiller Base.

Other recent additions that have attracted legions of the Star Wars faithful since a December debut include:

  • The enhanced Star Tours - The Adventures Continue that includes new characters and a new journey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, a cinematic reel celebrating the Star Wars saga.
  • The reimagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, featuring new characters, including the Seventh Sister from the Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels.
  • The "Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular,'' a nightly fireworks show set to Star Wars-themed music that will be reimagined as Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular this summer.
  • First Order stormtrooper patrols.
  • Star Wars-inspired food and beverage offerings.
