MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - The search for a Cuban migrant who went missing in the waters off Key West has been called off.
The Coast Guard search for the man was suspended hours after they received a report about 11 Cuban migrants arriving on Man Key. The migrants said two other men were last seen in the water. A helicopter crew rescued one man off Crawfish Key.
The Coast Guard says crews combed some 2,000 nautical miles searching for the man before calling off the search Wednesday night.
Since Oct. 1, the Coast Guard has captured, intercepted or chased away more some 2,065 Cuban migrants. In the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 4,473 Cuban migrants were kept from reaching U.S. shores. Cubans are allowed to stay in the United States if they reach land.
