MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The family of a man gunned down just steps from his apartment is speaking out in hopes his killer is caught.

"This tears my heart out," says the brokenhearted widow of her beloved husband, Aaron Parrish.

He was murdered steps from their apartment last Friday night in what Miami Police Department detectives call an assassination.

"He was shot at point blank range, not a drive by. Someone walked right up to him," shared Det. Luis Sanchez, who has been working around the clock to try to solve it.

The big concern is that it was a case of mistaken identity.

Police said there is some suspicion that the target was the victim's brother who looks a lot like him and was wearing similar clothes.

The worry is there could be more violence.

"I can't sleep," said the victim's wife, Jessica Medlar.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a vehicle of interest and almost image of a man who was walking in the area.

Any help could make a world of difference they say in solving the murder of a respected family man whose children are left traumatized.
