DALLAS (CBSMiami/AP) — The Dallas Police Department says they're investigating NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel following allegations he hit his ex-girlfriend.

Colleen Crowley told police the former Texas A&M star struck her "several times" at a Dallas hotel and later when they drove back to her apartment in Fort Worth last month.

The police departments in both cities said Thursday that their investigations were closed, but Dallas police said Friday that it was reopening its investigation after receiving a complaint of a domestic violence assault.

Police said detectives would determine what, if any, criminal charges Manziel would face. They noted it is not uncommon for victims of domestic violence to question or delay reporting an assault.

Crowley filed a protective order against Manziel this week that prevents him from seeing her for two years, according to the order first obtained by television station WFAA.

The order, signed Wednesday by district court Judge Mike Sinha, says Manziel must stay at least 500 feet from his ex-girlfriend's home and place of work, and owes $12,000 in legal fees.
