No. 16 Miami Women Fall To Syracuse 57-51

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami/AP) — The University of Miami Women's Basketball Team hit a rare speed bump on Monday night.

Alexis Peterson scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and Syracuse beat No. 16 Miami 57-51 for the Orange's first road win against a ranked opponent since the 2013-14 season.

Peterson had four of the Orange's 13 steals and Miami turned it over 26 times, which led to 15 points on the other end.

Laura Cornelius hit two free throws for Miami to tie the game at 49-all with 1:13 left, but the Hurricanes did not score again until the final seconds.

Briana Day made a go-ahead basket with 45 seconds left and Syracuse hit 6 of 8 free throws the rest of the way.

Cornelia Fondren added 10 points for Syracuse (16-6, 6-3 ACC), which made just 20 of 70 shots (29 percent). The Orange grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and hit 13 of 18 free throws.

Adrienne Motley led Miami (18-4, 6-3) with 16 points.
