PORT ORANGE (CBSMiami/AP) — A woman who stopped to help a motorcyclist who had lost control of his bike was struck and killed by a passing car.

Early Sunday morning 33-year-old Tina Martin of New Smyrna Beach noticed a motorcyclist who was thrown from his bike in the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 near Port Orange.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Martin was kneeling over the injured 23-year old when both were struck by a car driven by 52-year-old James Nichols of Daytona Beach. A second car driven by 39-year-old Penelope Ferguson of Port Orange stuck the motorcyclist.

Both Martin and the motorcyclist were declared dead at the scene.

The motorcyclist's name hasn't been released, pending notification of family.
