ICE Agent Dies After Miami-Beach Hit & Run

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A federal agent - the victim of a hit and run in Miami Beach- has died.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was with another friend, also an agent, when a car slammed into the two near Española Way earlier this month. Authorities have not released their names.
On Monday, ICE issued statement on the incident saying, "U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is saddened to announce that an ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident Jan. 15 while on duty in Miami Beach, Florida, died as a result of his injuries Sunday at a South Florida hospital.
Befitting his selfless nature, the special agent was an organ donor, and although we are immeasurably diminished by his death, we can at least take some small comfort in knowing that his final act gave others the chance to live. ICE asks that you join us in keeping his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
The news comes more than a week after Miami Beach Police arrested 21-year old Jordana Daniela Rosales in connection to the deadly hit and run. A judge set her bond at $100,000. She was also forced to surrender all her travel documents and wear a GPS monitor.
Officers said they had recovered a dark grey Mercedes Benz e350 believed to be involved in the incident.
Investigators said the two agents were run down while trying to catch a cab around 2 a.m.
"Struck the two men who were waiting to get into that taxi. The vehicle actually jumped onto that curb and continued southbound on Collins Avenue after striking both victims," said Miami Beach Police officer Ernesto Rodriguez back on January 15th.
No word on the condition of the other agent.
Rosales has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury. The state attorney previously said if one of the agents did not survive, more charges may be filed against Rosales.
