MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The car-sharing service Car2go has announced that they will be suspending service in the Miami and Miami Beach area at the beginning of March.
The company will pull its fleet of 300 Smart Fortwo cars out of the area due to slow sales and state taxes.
This decision was not made lightly and was due to a variety of factors, including unfavorable rental taxes for a service like ours.

In an email to members on Thursday, a Car2go spokesman said they are only suspending service and hope to return in the future.
They blamed the state's rental car tax as a hindrance to adding new customers.
"While we believe Miami can benefit greatly from a service like Car2go, Florida's rental-car tax doesn't reflect the innovation we bring to the rental-car sector, making Miami one of the most expensive cities in North America for one-way carsharing. Other services have also entered the mobility market, and are not subject to this additional tax," the email said. "This, in part, has contributed to a slower adoption of our service in Miami compared to other car2go cities."
February 29th will be the last day to catch a ride in the company's signature blue and white, tiny two-seaters.
Car2go got started in South Florida in 2012.
