FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- The two people arrested on accusations they robbed restaurants with a bottle of gasoline appeared in bond court Thursday.

According to police, Robert Golden, 27, and Tiffany Sierzputowski, 20, confessed to the robberies, saying they are drug addicts and homeless.

The duo was arrested after their family members saw them on the news and turned them in.

Golden and Sierzputowski appeared before bond court Judge John Hurley who ordered them held without bail on a charge of armed robbery with a deadly weapon.  The charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

Golden has an extensive history of arrest in South Florida for drugs, grand theft, elderly exploitation and other charges.

On Sunday, surveillance allegedly showed the couple walk into a Denny's on East Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park and ask the cashier to break a ten dollar bill. When the cashier opened the register, sheriff's investigators say the couple threatened her with a squirt bottle of gas and a lighter, and demanded the money in the register.

"Imagine someone walking in and threatening to set you on fire if you don't give them what you want. I mean, this is a really horrific act to threaten," said Gina Carter of the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Later Sunday, the same pair robs another Denny's, using an apologetic note that said, "Really sorry. Empty the register as quickly and calmly as possible. We have GUNS and Gas Bombs."

Police then said the crime spree continued as cameras caught them robbing a Dania Beach 7-11 of about $40 worth of food.

The clear security videos prompted relatives of both Golden and Sierzputowski to call police after the news aired the stories.

The couple was picked up Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Pembroke Pines. Both are being held without bond on robbery with a deadly weapon.
