MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Residents near Miami Northwestern Senior High are celebrating a major medical addition to the school's campus.

The Comprehensive Primary Care Clinic at the John H. Peavy Health Center at the school held a grand opening Saturday to show off the facility and welcome the community.

Guests got to tour the building, meet physicians and staff, and even receive health screenings.

"This site is all about wellness and prevention and making sure that the children are healthy. But also that the children and their families, and this entire community, gets the wellness and prevention that they need," said Annie Neasman, President and CEO of Jessie Trice Community Health Center, Inc. (JTCHC)

The health center was given a $1.45 million grant from the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Resources to provide care for families and children after school hours.

It's operated by the JTCHC in partnership with FIU, Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and The Children's Trust.

The clinic will also serve as a training site for FIU students.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. And Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
