MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The powerhouse owner of Liv nightclub at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach and Story nightclub is trying his hand at the restaurant biz.

Dave Grutman partnered with well known restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow to create the Asian inspired Komodo.

"I was not willing to a do restaurant on my own without someone who knows great food. For me, its always about great food. I'm a chubby Jewish guy, I love food," Grutman told Lisa Petrillo. "We opened a week ago and it's on fire."

The Komodo menu is a blend of Asian cuisine designed to take guests on a culinary journey of the Marco Polo trail. The name speaks for itself.

"We wanted something strong and it's a brand we could build and Komodo says everything about us. It's theatrical, its big, it's a monster, this is not a small place in a shopping center - it's Komodo," Grutman. "It's going to change Brickell."

So lets get to the food. We begin with Dave's favorite the Dave Grutman's Pastrami Egg Roll.

"It's my nana's recipe. I used to wake up on the weekends and get her pastrami sandwiches so now I take that pastrami and shove it into an egg roll and it's one of must amazing dishes we have," he said.

"Grandma knows what she doing," said Petrillo after taking a bite. "It's fresh pastrami, heated warm like a hug and crunch outside of the roll. This is something."

Next up - Lobster Dynamite which is crispy sushi rice topped with lobster and a touch of sriracha.

"The rice underneath is so delicious and crunchy and the lobster on top has so much flavor. You can eat them all day," Petrillo said.

Finally, Chilean sea bass with soy truffle, dashi broth with mushrooms and fresh shaved black truffles.

"The sea bass is so tender. There's a light crunch on outside and it sits on warm broth - like a bath. It's very special," Petrillo said.

Komodo - big, bold and ready to take on Brickell.

Komodo, located at 801 Brickell Avenue, opens everyday at 6 p.m.
