North Miami Beach Swears In New Top Cop

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - William Hernandez has been sworn in as the new police chief of North Miami Beach.

Hernandez was named interim chief last September after former Chief Dennis Scott retired.

The top cop said he has big plans for 2016.

"Our main priority in the near future is to create a gang unit, an economic fraud unit as well as a crime suppression team," said Hernandez. "We want to attack those individuals that are attacking our citizens. We want to come out with a strategic plan to reduce the crimes here."

Hernandez went on to say his ultimate goal is keep all residents of the city safe.
