Man Charge In Margate Murder

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Margate man was taken into custody after he reportedly killed a man who had been living with his mother.

On Tuesday, Edward Cadet, 30, went to his mother's apartment the residential community of Coral Bay to collect her belongings.  Cadet's mother, 60-year old Alfonsene Valentine, was found dead in an open field adjacent to North Bay Park in Coral Bay on Sunday.   She had been shot in the head, according to police.

When Cadet went to her apartment door it was answered by 59-year old Randy Pierson, who had been living with Cadet's mother. The two had a conversation about Pierson's relationship with Cadet's mother and the circumstances surrounding her death. During the conversation Cadet reportedly attacked Pierson, striking him repeatedly in the head and face.

When the police arrived, a severely injured Pierson was unconscious and without a pulse. He was taken to North Broward Medical Center where he died.

Cadet was arrested and has been charged with murder without premeditation.
