Cooler Start To 1st Full Week Of 2016

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A cool and cloudy morning across South Florida as everyone headed back to work and back to school to kick off the first full week of 2016.

Most areas awoke to the low 60s and a few inland locations even fell to the upper 50s. Temperatures are finally closer to our average low of 60 degrees for this time of year.

The dip in degrees and the clouds are courtesy of a cold front lingering just to our South.

Some scattered showers will move across portions of South Florida throughout the day. A bit more sunshine may break through later this afternoon with highs only climbing to the low 70s. Our average high at this time of year is 76 degrees.

The breeze will be increasing as well out of the North 15 to 20 miles per hour. Once the front clears, Monday night will be even cooler with most lows dipping down the upper 50s.

Tuesday we'll remain mild and breezy with highs in the low 70s again. Some showers will move onshore as the winds shift more out of the Northeast.

On Wednesday, an increase in moisture will lead to even more rain with highs in the low to mid 70s. Thursday some drier air will bring the rain chance down and temperatures will rebound back into the 80s.

Lows will be in the upper 60s by late week and highs in the 80s by Friday with some spotty showers. Forecast models indicate another cold front will likely approach South Florida on Sunday increasing the rain chance again.
