HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Fire at an assisted living facility forced dozens to flee and nine people to be checked out for smoke inhalation.

The fire originated in a laundry room Sunday morning at The Rehabilitation Center in Hollywood Hills located at 1200 North 35th Avenue.

Hollywood Fire Rescue said 69 people were evacuated and 17 had to be helped out by hospital staff.

No residents were hurt but seven staff members and two police officers were checked out for possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

"All for elevated CO levels. Any time someone goes into a building with smoke, there's a chance of carbon monoxide. It's a very dangerous byproduct of a fire so we had them transported for a routine checkup," said Fire Battalion Chief John Kuklinski.

The fire was put out fairly quickly and residents were later allowed back inside.
