CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) -- A high school junior has confessed to raping a 16-year-old girl not far from the Coral Springs High School campus he attends, according to detectives.

William Mendoza, 18, was charged with two counts of sexual battery on a victim over the age of 12.

Officials said he met the victim Sunday at the Arium San Remo Complex at 3400 Coral Springs Drive. The girl told police that after Mendoza started kissing her, he forced her to perform oral sex behind a dumpster. She then said he untied her pants, forced her face down on the ground and sodomized her.

But in bond court, an attorney raised questions about why it took two days for the victim to call police.

"I'm not sure why there was a delay. Maybe the parents were out of town," said Judge John Hurley.

Judge Hurley noted that the case against Mendoza seemed solid.

"Evidence collected in the exam room corroborated all of the victim's account and also the defendant made a statement corroborating what the alleged victim said, so this ties together," Judge Hurley continued.

The alleged attack behind a dumpster happened near both Coral Springs High School and the apartment Mendoza lives in.

Although Mendoza has no prior arrests, the judge expressed concern about the crime.

"The alleged level of violence and the vulnerability of the victim. We need to take that in to account," said Judge Hurley. "The court is concerned for the safety of the victim and there's concern about him being a flight risk."

Mendoza is being held on $20,000 bond and was ordered to stay away from the victim. He'll be required to wear a GPS monitor under conditions of his pre-trial release and will be restricted from possessing a weapon.

CBS4's Peter D'Oench knocked on the door of the apartment in Coral Springs where Mendoza lives with his family. But no one came to the door.
