Designer's Magic City Roots Blend With Italian Inspiration To Create Aquazzura

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Art Basel put Miami on the map in the art world. Now there's a push to do the same in the fashion world.

Some of the biggest name designers are coming to Miami to meet their fans face to face.

Edguardo Osoro, designer of Aquazzura shoes, is responsible for creating what he calls the 12-hour fashionable heel.

Osoro says he called his shoe line Aquazzura as a dedication to Italy.

"Aquazzura means blue water. I wanted a brand that reminded me of Italy, dolce vida in the summer," he said.

The name may be dedicated to Italy but inspiration for the shoes comes from spending his teen years in the Magic City.

"There is so much about Miami, the music, the beautiful buildings, the art deco, South Beach, the vibe. I love color and love Latin women in general. I love to dance. So it's a city that I really enjoy," he said.

Osorio spent time with his loyal customers at Neiman Marcus in Bal Harbor talking shoes.

Maria Tettamanti, a fashion blogger, said, "He is down to earth. That's what we want. He has Miami and Columbian roots. He brings that super down to earth design ecstatic to what he does."

Four years ago, one summer, Osorio said he attended 12 weddings and watched women suffering in their high heels that are when he decided to launch his own line and marry sexy with comfort.

"Comfort was a dirty word in fashion and for me they go hand in hand if you are not comfortable you do not feel sexy," says Osoro.

Within a few years, his line of shoes have become a phenomena and fashion editors calling it the 12-hour shoe, the one heel that you can wear for that long.

Reese Weatherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence and Julianne Moore are just some of the celebrities now sporting the heels. But it's the everyday woman Osorio is trying to reach.

Osoro says social media has been a big part of his success.

"I want to dress the Aquazzura woman at all times from when she is picking up the kids to when she's at a party to when she's at work to when she is Sunday shopping.

Aquazzura shoes have a gold pineapple on the bottom of every sole, because Osoro says gold pineapples bring good luck and fortune which is why he placed it on the shoe as a lucky charm.

Aquazzura shoes will run you at about $675 a pair and can reach up to $1,700.
