Burned Girl's Request For Christmas Cards Goes Viral

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It may not be Christmas yet but an little girl in New York is already getting her wish.

Two years ago, Safyre Terry's mother's ex-boyfriend set their home on fire. Her entire family was killed and but Safyre, who was severely burned and disfigured, survived.

This year Safyre, who had lost so much, wanted so little this Christmas. Weeks ago Safyre told her aunt she wanted to fill her Christmas tree with cards. When her aunt posted the wish on Facebook, it went viral. On Wednesday the family got a huge shipment of cards.

"You know what it is, the message, her message is out, her message is out to the world and that's what we're happy about," said Liz Dolder, Safyre Terry's aunt.

Burned over 75 percent of her body, Safyre has undergone countless surgeries and lost her left foot and right hand. The cards are now helping to make this a memorable holiday.

"Today's the first day and we already have over 100 letters and cards and multiple packages and parcels have come in for her," said John R Reilly a Postmaster.

Even some celebrities like Hulk Hogan and Yolanda Foster have gotten in on the act by sending gifts, cards and encouraging their followers to do the do the same.

So which celeb would Safyre like to get a card from? According to TMZ.com, she's a huge Katy Perry fan and has reserved a spot at the top of the tree for her card if she sends one.
