MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Pastor Bernard Lane and his great granddaughters need your help this Christmas.

"We've been blessed to have them in our home," said Pastor Lane.

The pastor and his wife Florine have five beautiful great granddaughters to share this holiday season with but unfortunately, not much else.

That's why he contacted CBS4's Neighbors 4 Neighbors – our community outreach program.

"It's good to be a pastor and we trust God for everything and I think that's why you all are here because God answered our prayer," said Pastor Lane.

After Bernard's daughter and mother to the little girls passed away eight years ago, he became their caregiver.

The family's state assistance was drastically reduced this year and Lane makes a little over $33,000 a year.

Their struggles are not just financial. The youngest girl Tahnieya underwent open heart surgery and suffers from speech and hearing impediments.

"She loves school. She's a happy young lady. But she also has scoliosis and that's another shortcoming that she has," said Pastor Lane.

Medical bills are mounting and the girls are growing out of their clothes faster than Lane can purchase them.

"Thirty-four thousand dollars is not enough to run this house even with the $249 the federal government gives us for each girl. So my wife's income, my income, we are still short at the end of the month," said Pastor Lane.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors can be the way this family's holiday season is saved and keep them all smiling.

"I'm smiling because I have nothing to frown for. I trust God for everything and I say again thank God for Neighbors 4 Neighbors and CBS," said Pastor Lane.
