MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – Two friends were sitting outside a Miami Gardens apartment complex Friday afternoon when two juveniles got into an argument. Miami Gardens Police said that's when shots rang out and paramedics rushed an 81-year-old man caught in the gunfire to the hospital with two gunshot wounds to the back.

"At this time we're not exactly sure why the argument took place but there was some type of argument that ensued here," said Miami Gardens Police Spokesperson Dorothea Hall.

Jule McKinnie has lived in the 187th Street apartments for more than 30 years.

Friday evening, she watched as Miami Gardens Police investigated the shooting.

"That's nonsense," she said. "It's a shame. I don't what we're going to do. The only thing we can do is pray."

Resident Antonio Diaz said, in Spanish, the victim was visiting him when he heard the shots. He hopes his friend is okay.

Police told CBS4 the victim was rushed to Aventura Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.

The description of the juveniles involved is limited and vague.

If you can help solve this case, call the Miami Gardens Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
