Marlins Looking To Hire Barry Bonds As Hitting Coach

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins will head into the 2016 season with a new manager after signing Don Mattingly to a four-year contract last month.
Even with a new skipper in place, it appears that Miami isn't done tweaking it's coaching staff.
CBS Sports reported on Monday that the Marlins are targeting legendary slugger Barry Bonds to become the team's new hitting coach.
According to the report, Bonds is "seriously considering" taking the job and joining Marlins' hitting coach Frank Menechino, who has held the position for the past two seasons, as co-hitting coaches.
Some people around the team seem confident that Bonds will in fact accept their offer.
Bonds has had a lot of negativity surrounding him since he was connected to using performance enhancing drugs during his career.
That has led to Bonds receiving only about half the necessary votes to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame despite being one of the best pure hitters that the game has seen.
In recent years Bonds has worked as a hitting instructor for the San Francisco Giants during the spring and has expressed interest in taking a permanent role with his former club.
The Marlins are expected to retain first base and infield coach Perry Hill, third base coach Lenny Harris and bullpen coach Reid Cornelius, and the report mentions that the team is expected to hire Tim Wallach to be the bench coach and Juan Nieves as the pitching coach.
