Amidst Another Losing Season, Dolphins Asking For Early Season Ticket Renewals

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – It's been another rough season for the Miami Dolphins and it's fans, with the team currently holding a 4-7 record and heading towards another playoff-less January.

This year the struggles seem to be hurting fans a bit more than usual, likely due to the high expectations that surrounded the team during training camp.

That isn't stopping the Dolphins from raising the price of approximately 46 percent of the seats at Sun Life Stadium for the 2016 season and asking current season ticket owners to commit to renewing their seats for next season by December 18th.

Generally renewal commitments aren't due until after the season ends.

Considering that the team is going to likely have an entirely new coaching staff in 2016, asking fans to renew before any of those decisions are made is peculiar.

There is one thing to keep in mind about the raised ticket prices.

The Dolphins actually raised the prices prior to this season but held back the increase for fans whose seats are located in areas of Sun Life Stadium that are not shaded during games.

Since the stadium is going to have a brand new canopy installed for next season, the price increase will now be installed for the remaining seats as they will no longer be in the sun during games.

Most fans aren't so much upset about the raising of prices, but rather the timing of the Dolphins asking them to make a purchase commitment for the upcoming season with so many decisions still yet to be made regarding the future of the team.

Season ticket sales saw a boost prior to the team's 2015 campaign, with Miami actually selling out its season ticket goals.

But that had a lot to do with the Dolphins being expected to be a playoff team that could contend for a Super Bowl appearance, Miami's first since 1985.

Seven losses in eleven games later, while throwing in the firing of the head coach and the offensive and defensive coordinators, the team is asking its fans to commit their money before the current season is over.
