MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A South Florida teacher has a lot to be thankful for this year.

Marisabel Lopez has her dream job as a first grade teacher at Somerset Academy Bay and now she can add author to her resume.

She wrote the book "Thankful Turkeys" over the last couple of years.

"I decided to pursue it a little more and I would work on it. I would go back to it, edit it and add more information. Then finally, at the beginning of this year, I decided I needed to do something with it."

She had it published just in time for Thanksgiving.

"Thankful Turkeys" starts with how most turkeys feel before Thanksgiving; scared which one of their flock will be chosen for the feast

"The little fowls which are the young turkeys they end up submitting a contest entry to a Turkey Bowl so I connected the idea with sports," said Lopez.

But there is a happy ending of course and a perfect lesson for the holiday season.

"I know during this time we really think about being grateful and giving thanks. There's not a lot of stories out there that give that message. I think it's something important they need to think about," said Lopez.

"Thankful Turkeys" is available for purchase now at Amazon.com and will be coming to bookstores soon.
