MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- NBA Hall-of-Famer Alonzo Mourning is making sure hundreds of  South Florida families in need get a Thanksgiving meal.

Over 400 families are getting meals just in time for the holiday, some prepared by Mourning himself along with other volunteers.

Tuesday morning,  Mourning along with Publix staff, FedEx staff and volunteers gathered to prepare the meals, ahead of the afternoon meal distribution.

The event which will happen at the Overtown Youth Center is part of Alonzo Mourning's 15th annual "33 Thanksgivings."

But it doesn't stop there.

On Thanksgiving Day, Mourning will surprise 10 families with a fully-cooked Thanksgiving feast which includes turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry orange relish and iced tea.

Families who will get a surprise visit have been selected from the Overtown and Little Haiti communities.
