HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Hallandale Beach Police arrested a mail man for his role in an alleged gold and diamond investment scam.

Lawyer Stanley Jr. is now facing charges of organized scheme to defraud, first-degree grand theft and third-degree grand theft.

His arrest comes after an investigation by the Office of Financial Regulation (OFR).

Officials said Stanley, from September 2006 to September 2013, while working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, solicited potential investors for a fake gold and diamond investment opportunity in Africa.

During his mail route, he allegedly solicited investments from residents, co-workers and acquaintances, promising some he would double their investments or millions of dollars in returns on their investment.

Stanley also allegedly persuaded victims to invest in a large scale infrastructure project for which he claimed to have exclusive contracts with governments in Africa.

Authorities said they believe Stanley spent at least $2.1 million that was allegedly invested in the scam.

He is being held at Broward County Jail on a bond of $50,000.
