FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - The death of a two-year old girl who was found unresponsive in her bed early Thursday morning has been ruled a homicide by the Broward Medical Examiner's office.

The sheriff's office said they received a call around 2:45 a.m. Thursday for a medical alert in the 1100 block of NW 30th Terrace. Paramedics found Za'mya Williams unconscious and unresponsive. They tried to resuscitate her but were unsuccessful. She died at a nearby hospital.

Investigators said Za'mya's family members told them that the little girl was asleep in her bed when she was found.

Thursday evening, sheriff's detectives served a search warrant at an apartment along NW 31st Avenue which they said was connected to the death of Williams.

The Florida Department of Children and Families said they have no history with this child or her family.

Sheriff's investigators have not said how Za'mya died or how the apartment near her home may be connected to her death.
