MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There was plenty to talk and laugh about at a Little Haiti firehouse after crews delivered a baby on the side of the road.

It all happened at NE 2nd Ave. and 73rd St. Friday afternoon.

A mother was being driven to the hospital but just couldn't make it.

"Be sure all clothes below the waist is removed," dispatch could be heard telling the driver on the 911 call.

"Mika, he says to take off your drawers," the driver relayed.

"Okay, you need to help her, you need to help her," the dispatcher continued.

"Mika, I need to help you. You need to lie back!" the driver told the delivering mother.

Fortunately Miami Fire Rescue from Firehouse 9 showed up just in time.

"We stopped and within one minute of being on scene she was having contractions. His head started coming out we had deliver on the scene," said Capt. David Nunez.

Nunez said his fellow crewmembers had never delivered a baby before.

"How'd they do?" CBS4's Hank Tester asked him.

"Fantastic!" Nunez replied.

And like proud fathers, the firefighters snapped pictures holding young Izary.
