MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department released new surveillance tape Tuesday that they said show the moments prior to a deadly police-involved shooting in southwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Police said an officer opened fire on a suspect, killing him near SW 206th Street and SW 127th Avenue before 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators at first believed the man killed had robbed a fast food restaurant just a couple of miles away.

New surveillance tape released by authorities reportedly showed the connected armed robbery that led to the shooting.

In the tape, an armed robber is seen entering a Wendy's restaurant at 211th Street and South Dixie Highway.

Security cameras captured as he stuck a pistol in the manager's ribs and marching the manager toward the office.

The robber proceeded to order the manager to sit down and dig out the cash.

The gun-toting desperado scooped up the haul before running out the door to his eventual death.

Chopper4 was over the scene near a canal where a yellow tarp covered the body of the suspected armed robber near a bike path.  Near the man's body, a handgun could be seen lying on the pavement. An officer could also be seen standing nearby.

The scene of the shooting is near a playground in a neighborhood of working and middle class families called Oak Park.

"A lot of police are running around. We don't usually see that kind of news around here," said a man who arrived at the scene moments after the shooting.

Sources told CBS4's Gary Nelson, it all started at a Wendy's restaurant on South Dixie Highway near 211th Street in Cutler Bay.

Police believe the robber ran away from the Wendy's on a bike and walking path just across the street from the restaurant. On police radio transmissions an officer could be heard shouting, "He's holding a gun! Units on the other side, find cover!"

That's when the suspected robber was fatally injured. Police have yet to release his identity.

It remains unclear if the suspected robber had any accomplices.

Florida's Department Of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
