Man Charged After Dade Police Involved Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man shot by police during a traffic stop in South Miami over the weekend has been charged with drug possession and resisting arrest.
On Sunday, just after 5 p.m., a Miami-Dade police officer pulled over 36-year old Michael Gavins in the 1400 block of South Dixie Highway.
As officers approached Gavins' vehicle, which had pulled into a gas station, they spotted what looked like drugs. Gavins was ordered out of his car and taken back to a patrol car.
Gavins then reported made an "overt movement and ignored the officer's commands" and the officer shot him, according to police.
Gavins, who was struck in the torso, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center. Police say a plastic bag containing several smaller bags of marijuana was seized on the scene and more marijuana was found in Gavin's clothing.
He's been charged with possession, with intent to sell, marijuana and resisting arrest without violence.
