Living Large: Luxury Beach House On Ocean Drive

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - The Beach House at 222 Ocean Drive is a 7,000+ square foot home unique for many reasons, but as realtor John Sandberg tells us, none more than this.

"It's truly one of a kind. It's the only house on Ocean Drive. There used to be another one down the street owned by Mr. Gianni Versace but that's no longer a house," said John Sandberg, who is Director of Luxury Sales at Douglas Elliman.

The home, priced at just under $15 million, is owned by a familiar face in South Florida - Shareef Malnik who owns the iconic Forge Restaurant. He bought the home, which has four bedrooms and six baths in 1995, but hasn't lived in it for years.

"A little bit ago he hit the reset button on the property. It's a ground up restoration for what I believe is a masterpiece," said Sandberg.

"Nobody ever lived in this house, nobody has ever slept in this house. No one has ever cooked in the kitchen."

Off the main living room, which has 20 foot ceilings, is a cozy nook with a beach house style gas fireplace. There's a modern dining room with an air conditioned wine room that backs into it a media room. The floors throughout the house are oak and painted white.

"In Miami and Miami Beach a lot of people say make everything white and this is definitely a white property but it doesn't lose that fabric and feel of the beach. There's a texture and an ode to nature," Sandberg said.

The "Guggenheim-esque" staircase brings you up to the master suite. It's open and airy with a balcony, but the main attraction is a television that comes up magically from under the bed.

"I want this, I really want this," said CBS4's Lisa Petrillo as she watched the TV electronically appear from under the bed.

A guest bedroom has a unique style and name.

"A lot of buyers have called this "The 50 shades of Grey" room," said Sandberg as pointed out the light fixtures next to the bed which hang from a knotted rope.

On the rooftop deck, this only home on South Beach with its very own lap pool on top.

"It's the only one like it Lisa," said Sandberg. "You can walk to everywhere you want."
