FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue said two people were able to escape a house fire Saturday that claimed the lives of at least three animals.

Video taken by firefighters shows the thick, black smoke surrounding a home at the 2400 block of Gulfstream Lane. Inside, heavy flames shot out of every window.

It took about a half an hour to get the fire under control, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Afterward, crews recovered the bodies of two dogs and a cat. Two other cats remain missing.

The home was destroyed.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
