HAVANA (CBSMiami) – We now know the exact date Cuban President Raul Castro plans to step down.

During an official state visit to Mexico, a short time ago, he announced that February 24th, 2018 he'll be finished as Cuba's president and will retire.

That would be the end of his current five year term.

When he started this term, his second, he made it fairly clear he wouldn't stay longer than that.

He did not say who the Communist Party would appoint to take his place.

Reformers, and the U.S., would obviously like to see Cubans be given the opportunity to pick their own leader, through an election, though that possibility remains slim.
