Officer Injured In Okeechobee Road Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Miami-Dade police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after he was involved in an accident on Okeechobee Road.

K-9 officer James Boone, who is assigned to the Airport District, was heading south when he was struck in the NW 138th Street intersection by Anibal Martinez, 44, who was attempting to make a turn.

Boone, 47, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where had an MRI and CAT scan to determine if he had a broken clavicle and spine injuries. The officer's K-9 was taken to Knowles Animal Hospital and released.

Martinez was taken to Palmetto Hospital where she was checked out for leg pain.

Boone is a 23 year veteran of the force.
