MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Police are looking for one or more bus stop bandits.

They say someone vandalized around two dozen bus shelters in the county.

"Various bus stops with glass panes appear to be shot out by a BB gun," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta. "here was glass all over the floor and this happened at over 20 of these bus stops."

Several of the damaged bus stops were along Northwest 186th Street in northwest Miami-Dade.

Investigators believe the vandals struck between Friday and Saturday, but they don't know for sure if the person or people responsible traveled on foot or in a car.

Bus stops weren't the only target.

"It wasn't only bus stops," Det. Zabaleta said. "There were cars parked along the bus stop."

Car and apartment windows nearby were also busted.

Those can be pricey repairs for their owners, but the money to fix the bus shelters comes from you, the taxpayer.

"These are bus stops that people use to commute, that people utilize to stay out of sun," Zabaleta said. "Paid with our own tax dollars. Here's stuff we use our own money to make and these individuals are shooting it and destroying it and vandalizing it."

County workers began the task of installing new glass panes this week, but several still need to be replaced.

While no one was hurt, police say they're not taking this lightly.

"This is something that concerns the police department," Zabaleta said. "It's something that should concern the public as well. The community should be appalled at what happened."

Anyone with information about this call should call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS (3477).
