Two Men, Kitten Rescued From Burning Home

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Firefighters rescued two men and a kitten from a burning home in Northwest Miami-Dadein early Friday morning.

The fire broke out at around 2 a.m. at a group home on NW 51st Place and 169th Street.

The people who live at the house say they were asleep when they heard the fire alarm go off and saw flames and black smoke coming from the back of the house.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they had to help two men out of the home. Scott Henderson, 45, suffered second degree burns over 17-percent of his body. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital were he was listed as stable. The second man, 58-year old Elton Smith, was found unconscious from smoke inhalation and transported to Mercy Hospital.

During a search of the burning home, firefighters also found an unresponsive kitten. The cat suffered some burns but was given oxygen and is expected to be okay.

Arson investigators have determined that the fire was intentionally set, however, they are still trying to determine how the fire was ignited and who may have done it.
