Dan Campbell's Appendix Once Exploded And He Said Nothing

560-WQAM

Dan Campbell is becoming more cartoon character by the day.

Eight days into his tenure as Miami Dolphins interim head coach and he already may be the NFL's most entertaining coach. His quotes have referred to his players as "primates" and "animals." His practices have featured Oklahoma drills, one-on-ones, tug-of-war, and Michael Jordan videos. Dan Campbell seems like the type of coach who will show up on gameday in camo pants and a muscle shirt.

While the aforementioned already paint him as one of the most fun coaches to come through South Florida, it's this one nugget from a profile on NFL.com that sunk my jaw to the floor.

On that quiet flight out of Texas, Campbell's appendix exploded, an extremely painful and potentially life-threatening kick to the gut that would cause most men to double over onto the beverage cart. Campbell didn't make a sound. No one had a clue. He returned to practice in about a week and won the Ed Block Courage award that season.

That was the Dan Campbell everyone knew.

"It was to the point where they were trying to hold him off the field so the stitches would heal," Ryan told Around The NFL this week. "He was just itching to get back on the practice field. He's just a testament to the old-time tough guys."

Dan Campbell does not have time for exploding appendixes. Can some of this manic toughness rub off on his 1-3 squad when he makes his head coaching debut this Sunday in Tennessee?
