MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police said two men in their 60s are in critical condition from head injuries sustained during robberies just blocks apart from each other on Wednesday.

City of Miami Police officers were processing two different scenes fairly close to each other.

The first scene was right outside the Black Eagle Family Food Market located at NW 4th Ave. and 7th St.

Investigators said a man in his 60s was leaving the convenience store at around 2 p.m.

Outside the store, the man in his 60s was allegedly confronted by another man and an altercation ensued.

Detectives said he was either pistol whipped or shot in the head by the assailant.

Moments later, police said another man in his 60s was attacked at the corner of NW 5th Ave. and 8th St.

He also suffered severe head trauma from either being pistol whipped or shot.

The suspect at that location is believed to be in his 20s and fled on a bicycle.

Police are working to determine whether these two incidents were committed by the same person or if there is some kind of coincidence.

"These are elderly individuals. We don't believe this is any sort of retaliation. It's not related to drugs. It's just a robbery," said Sgt. Freddie Cruz. "Lots of members of the community were out and about doing some shopping. Kids were getting out of school. We do believe that somebody saw something, we just need them to make a phone call so we can help out our detectives."

Miami Fire Rescue rushed both men to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

If you have any information, you are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
