NW Dade Man Killed In Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - In Northwest Miami-Dade, a woman's mournful cry pierced the early morning darkness. It was the increasingly familiar sound of heartache, as another young person was shot dead in a yard near his home.

His father heard it.

"A whole lot of gunshots I heard," said a grim faced Ervin Jarmouth. "Then I heard other gun shots, and I was hoping my son was alright."

But his son, 27-year-old Ervin Davis, was not alright.  He was murdered by who knows who for who knows what at 24th Avenue and 81st Terrace about 1:40 a.m.

The fatal shooting came only about three blocks away from where 24 year-old Precious Jackson was shot dead as she stood with friends in her mother's front yard just six weeks ago.

Her mom, then and now, believes the killing was the result of a bad shot – or mistaken identity.

"It wasn't for her, it wasn't for her," Jackson's mother Tehsia Green told CBS4 News Thursday.  "I know that it wasn't for her."

Precious Jackson had just come home from a shift at Checkers when she was killed.

Ervin Davis had only a single arrest on his record; simple pot possession.

His dad said he labored for an honest living.

"He was a real hard working kid," the father said.  "He'd go to work every day, and he worked for his money."

Could the murders of Ervin Davis and Precious Jackson, so close together in time and distance, be related?  Her mom wouldn't speculate but grieved for all.

"It just makes me sad that it's still going on, and I just hope somebody comes forward and does the right thing," the mother said.

Rev. Eric Readon, active in the community, believes a summer of street killings are the work of a core group of hoodlums.

"I just know that a lot of lives are being taken, whether it be innocent or intended targets, but we do ask the neighborhood to just break the code of silence," Readon said.

The silence in many areas of North Miami-Dade has all too often been broken, however, by the wailing sound of broken hearts.

"If anyone out there knows something about who killed my son, please, say something," Ervin Davis's father said.

Anyone with information about the Davis or Jackson killings is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
