FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSMiami/AP) — American Airlines and union officials may have struck a deal, at least a tentative one, offering higher wages for thousands of employees.

The deal would affect about 14,500 customer service and gate agents, including some in Florida.

Fort Worth-based American announced the tentative deal with the Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Terms were not released, pending ratification by union members. No voting deadline was immediately announced.

An American statement Wednesday says the agreement will mean significant pay raises for workers, while preserving jobs and facilitating growth.

Union official Ron Collins, in a letter to workers, says employees can expect major improvements in wages and benefits

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the affected employees also mainly work in Texas, North Carolina, and Arizona. Some customer service agents work from home.
