Men Jump Into Canal During Bee Attack, Prompting Search

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- Rescue crews rushed to help workers who were stung by bees and jumped into a canal, causing a frantic search in Pembroke Pines.

It all happened around 11 a.m.  on Wednesday near SW 184th Terrace and SW 7th Street.

A group of workers say they were attacked by a swarm of bees and they jumped into a nearby canal to try to escape being stung.

Chopper4 was over the scene as people rushed to make sure everyone made it out of the water safely.

A total of four workers jumped into the water, in different directions, in hopes of getting the bees off them.

Fire Rescue was called out and one person had to be taken to the hospital.

As of noon, emergency responders remained at the scene.

Experts say the best way to escape a bee swarm is to run to an enclosed area where you can shut the bees out, like your home or car.

If those aren't options, jumping into water might help but beware, scientists say, the bees may hover around the surface until you come up for air.

As for the victims in Wednesday's incident, it is unclear how many times they were stung.

The condition of the person rushed to the hospital is unknown at this time.
