MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One man is dead, a second hospitalized after they were shot at a northwest Miami-Dade gas station.

Bullet casings were seen scattered around the area where investigators say he was gunned down.

The two men were sitting at the Valero gas station on the corner of NW 103rd Street and NW 12th Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when a man walked up to them and started shooting.

"Some mens came around shooting," said a witness who did not want to be identified. "They had on ski masks that's all I can tell you."

The witness said one of the masked men aimed a gun at his face and fired.

"Guy pointed the gun at me. The gun clicked. There wasn't no more bullets. He kept going," said the witness.

The shooter later ran off, leaving a bloody wake.

Miami-Dade police said one of the men, only described as being in his 40s, died on the scene. The second man was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where he was listed as stable.

"When you facing death you don't see nothing just black. You don't see none of that. All you do is you close your eyes and hope for the good," said the witness. "He pulled the trigger, nothing. All I got to do thank God. God was watching me."

Investigators believe robbery was not the motive for this shooting and that the men were targeted. Now they're working to figure out why.

"It's really sad. It's sad, all this killing for nothing," said Roger Hester who lives nearby. "I hope they catch him and I hope have some witnesses to keep him away."

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
