TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The Florida Department of Corrections says a former Florida Panhandle prison guard has been arrested for allegedly introducing contraband into the facility where he worked.
According to reports, the Office of Inspector General arrested former Correctional Officer Shannon Curry on Friday.
A news release says that Curry was caught during a routine search bringing contraband into the Wakulla Correctional Institution in June. Officials say it was later revealed that he had received compensation for the contraband items over an extended period of time. Curry resigned immediately.
Curry has been charged with introduction of contraband into a prison facility and unlawful compensation by a public servant. He was taken to the Wakulla County Jail. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
