MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Fall movie season is official here and one of the movies opening in theaters this weekend is Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. It's the second chapter of the epic Maze Runner saga.

Actor Dylan O'Brien is back as  Thomas, the resourceful leader. He and his fellow Gladers are on  the journey of a lifetime, the search to find clues about a powerful and mysterious organization known as WCKD.

There's a deadly virus wiping out humanity so every day is a fight for survival.

"I've always loved how human he (Thomas) is to his core because that speaks to this story on how these kids fight to survive. I've always respected his mind. He is the epitome of a leader. He's courageous and brave despite his fears," said O'Brien.

Actor Giancarlo Esposito is Jorge, a commanding leader who does not suffer fools. From the beginning audiences are not sure if Jorge is bad or good.

"He certainly protects his own. He is a master bargainer. He will do anything to protect his world and survive, explained Esposito.

Rosa Salazar plays Brenda. She was taken in by Jorge and trusts no one else. "I don't know these kids or trust them. I only trust Jorge, so that's where she is coming from. She is tough and cautious," said Salazar. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is a non-stop thriller filled with major action lead by Thomas. The team is  fighting for every minute of lives.

British actress Kaya Scodelario plays Teresa, a mysterious woman who shares a past connection with Thomas, but it was all those action scenes that caused her the most chaos. "I hate to run and every day there was running scenes. It became a running joke! I'm not one who enjoys exercise!" Kaya said laughing.

The original Maze Runner took in some 340 million dollars at the box office worldwide. All hopes are on Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials  to do that and then some.  It's rated PG-13.
