DAVIE (CBSMiami) – After propelling the Miami Dolphins to victory on Sunday, wide receiver Jarvis Landry went out into the community on Tuesday to help high school students prepare for their adult lives.

Landry surprised students at Nova High School and gave them lessons and played games designed to introduce the importance of financial literacy.

Landry has teamed up with BankUnited to promote the 4 Downs for Finance financial literacy contest for high school students.

The contest is designed to help students learn about and understand financial literacy at an age when many of them are beginning to earn their first paychecks.

Full-time Florida students between the ages of 13 and 18 can register online at www.4downsforfinance.com. Registration will run through December 20th.

Once online, students will be able to access age-appropriate money tips throughout the NFL season and submit an essay on a financial literacy topic.

Entrants will have a chance to win a Jarvis Landry autographed football and have his or her name read live on the radio during a Dolphins game broadcast.

One student will win a $1,000 cash price and a visit with Landry.

During his visit at Nova High, Landry shared personal stories of how growing up in Louisiana had a big impact on the way he budgets and saves his money.

"In football, you get a jump start on life in the financial world," Landry said. "But it's so much more important to know that you have the opportunity to save; to learn a little bit more how to keep money instead of how to spend money. For me to come out and be able to inspire these kids to follow the right financial footsteps is what I'm here for."
