PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- A man is in custody following a "suspicious" incident at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines.

Police said they responded to a 911 call of a suspicious vehicle at the airport near Perimeter Road on Monday morning. There was a person inside a 2004 green Nissan pickup truck .

Officers said when they arrived they saw an apparent gunshot had shattered the passenger-side window of the truck.

A 39-year old Hispanic male got out of the car with a gun holstered in his waistband but removed it and placed it on the floorboard of the truck, according to police.

As he walked towards the police cars, officers were seen on guard with guns pointed. At one point, he was seen walking backwards towards the police cars.

Officers were then able to take him into custody and send him to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

Investigators have determined shots were fired within the vehicle but it is not clear what happened.

Police said this appears to be an isolated incident.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
