HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – Hialeah Police are combing a busy strip mall for surveillance tape after a brazen daytime burglary of a jewelry store Thursday in which at least one burglar broke through a wall in a travel agency in order to get inside the jewelry store.

According to Hialeah Police, three masked suspects gained entry to the jewelry store at 9 a.m. and tied up three female victims.

Mirel Barcelo is the cousin of the owner of the Cuba 80 travel agency and she told CBS4's Peter D'Oench said her cousin was opening up the agency at 2474 West 60th St.

"My cousin opened up the business as usual," said Barcelo. "She noticed something strange and she tried to run out. Somebody tried to drag her and um, she has a bad injury in her hands and ribs. We are not sure about damage to our business at this point."

Hialeah  detectives said the thieves broke through the dry-wall partition as they tried getting into the jewelry store.

"The stores are not connected, but they tried to break a wall in the jewelry store," Barcelo said. "My cousin only saw one person, but obviously this was more than a one-man job and it took time."

CBS4 was there as one man was arrested near the jewelry store and placed inside a police cruiser, but it was known if he was connected to the crime or how much was taken from Ariel's Jewelry.

Barcelo said she was upset that her cousin's business was victimized and that she was injured.

"Especially since this has nothing to do with the jewelry store and we got broken into," she said. "I mean this is unfortunate. It is an unfortunate situation.

"We've been noticing a few things. We have been seeing these sorts of crimes on the news. I guess people don't have anything else to do."

Barcelo hopes the burglar or burglars will be caught.

"If you know these people, just report them and do something so we could prevent this from ever happening again," she said.

Anyone with information that can help Hialeah Police should call them or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
