Broward Residents Brace For Heavy Rain From Erika's Remnants

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida residents should continue to brace for rain even as Erika dissipates over Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Early birds were out Saturday at a Costco gas station in Pembroke Pines and they weren't the only ones preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
"After the last storm what happened with gas being out I just don't want to be without it," said gas customer Paul Jaquith.
Others stocked up with other supplies, not just for this potential storm but for others that may come in the future.
"Milk, Cereal juice, water," said Faride Moises. "I have three kids – I won't take any chances. I can't take any chances."
Jason Kaufman believes whether Erika significantly impacts South Florida or not, you have to be ready for it or any other storms in the future.
He filled up his vehicles and gas containers for generators.
"I'm just doing it out of precautionary reasons to have some gas for my generator if the power goes out like it did during Wilma. It was out for 2 weeks," recalled Kaufman.
Sandbags were in high demand for flood prone residents in Hollywood. The line stretched a mile long to the Public Works Department to get 10 free bags on Friday.
"Yeah we've had water in the garage a few times," said a person waiting in line.
You can still pick up 10 free sand bags until 2pm at the Public Works Department in Hollywood and Hallandale Beach.
But now the worry shifts to all the rain that may come our way.
The Broward Public School System will make a decision on whether students will have to head back to the classroom on Sunday.
Hurricane season runs through November 30th so this may be the perfect dress rehearsal for South Florida.
