TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Florida Governor Rick Scott gave his second update of the day Friday afternoon on what the state is doing to prepare  for Tropical Storm Erika and what residents should be doing.

"It looks like we're going to get some water. We are ready," said Scott. "The most important thing for every family is to think of ever family member."

Earlier in the day, Scott declared a state of emergency for the entire state in preparation for Tropical Storm Erika.  Following his declaration, the governor gave his first update from the Miami-Dade's State Emergency Operations Center in Doral and urged them to be prepared.

"We've got to continue to be prepared," said Scott. "We've got concerns all across the state now."

He also reminded the public of the basics, like having three days of food and water ready and to not drive into standing water if there is flooding.

In the executive order filed by Scott he states, "Tropical Storm Erika poses a severe threat to the entire State of Florida and requires that timely precautions are taken to protect the communities, critical infrastructure, and general welfare of this State."

The declaration has a number of effects, such as triggering arrangements in which Florida can seek assistance from other states and the federal government. Also, Scott ordered Adjutant Gen. Michael Calhoun to activate the Florida National Guard for the duration of the emergency.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez also spoke during Friday's briefing in Doral and reaffirmed readiness within the county.

"Our message is just stay in touch and we will let you know if anything changes. There are no evacuation orders in place," said Gimenez. ""We are here. Miami-Dade county and all of its agencies are ready to respond."

Florida residents are urged to monitor the storms track and plan accordingly.
